Radar level measurement is based on the Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) principle and operates as a non-contact top-down measurement system. The antenna transmits a continuously frequency-modulated signal, which is reflected from the medium surface and mixed with the reference signal to generate a beat frequency. By analyzing the frequency difference, the system calculates the signal travel time and determines the distance to the medium surface. The level height is accurately calculated using the formula: Distance = (Wave velocity × Time difference) / 2. Combined with the preset empty tank height, the system automatically converts the measured distance into the actual level value. FMCW radar technology offers high measurement accuracy and strong interference resistance, making it suitable for demanding process applications. However, it has a relatively higher cost compared with traditional level measurement technologies.
