Measuring principle:

Upward fluid flow generates lift S and buoyancy A to lift the float inside the tapered tube. Enlarged annular passage weakens the kinetic lift gradually. The float stays balanced at a certain height when S + A = float gravity G. Float height represents flow rate owing to the proportional relation between flow capacity and float lift height / flow area, hence float position is used for flow metering.
