The measurement principle of a portable pH meter is based on potentiometric analysis, with its core relying on the selective response of the glass electrode in a combined electrode to hydrogen ions. When the electrode is immersed in a solution, a membrane potential is generated across the glass membrane due to the hydrogen ion concentration difference inside and outside. This potential, together with the stable potential of the reference electrode, constitutes the electromotive force of a galvanic cell. The instrument measures this tiny potential difference through a high-impedance circuit and converts it linearly into the corresponding pH value for display according to the Nernst equation.

Applicable for water quality control and research applications, it is also suitable for the verification of online pH/ORP analyzers and for instantaneous sampling analysis. Specific use scenarios include laboratory analysis, drinking water treatment plants, wastewater treatment, and the verification and calibration of online pH analyzers.
