The measurement principle is based on the ion-selective electrode (ISE) potentiometric method. The instrument forms a measurement cell through a sodium ion-selective electrode (measuring electrode) and a reference electrode. When a water sample containing sodium ions flows past the electrodes, the electrode membrane produces a selective response to sodium ions, generating a potential difference (electromotive force) across the membrane that correlates with the activity (concentration) of sodium ions. This potential difference follows the Nernst equation and, after being amplified by a high-impedance amplifier and temperature-compensated, the sodium ion concentration in the water sample is calculated by the microprocessor.

The WE420 Sodium Analyzer is primarily used in high-purity water systems of thermal power plants, nuclear power stations, and petrochemical industries. It continuously monitors trace sodium ions in boiler feedwater, condensate, steam, and generator cooling water, aiming to prevent equipment corrosion, scaling, and salt deposition caused by excessive sodium ions, thereby ensuring the safe and economical operation of the thermal system.
