The Rosemount 1408H non-contact radar level transmitter is based on 80 GHz FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) technology. Its core principle: the transmitter emits microwave signals with linearly changing frequency toward the liquid surface. By receiving the reflected echoes and calculating the frequency difference between the transmitted and received signals, using the linear relationship between the difference and distance, it accurately calculates the distance from the antenna to the liquid surface. Combined with the known tank height, it converts to the actual level. With the built-in Smart Echo Supervision intelligent echo processing algorithm, it effectively distinguishes true product surface echoes from interfering echoes.

Hygienic applications

The 1408H is primarily designed for industries with strict hygienic requirements such as food, beverage, and pharmaceutical. Specifically designed for small tanks and space-constrained skid systems. It is widely used for continuous level monitoring in fermenters, batching tanks, and buffer tanks, as well as complex conditions such as agitation, rapid filling, CIP (Clean-In-Place) / SIP (Sterilization-In-Place), providing high-accuracy level and inventory management, ensuring process hygiene and preventing overflow.
