Measuring principle:
The measuring system operates on the transit‑time principle. Acoustic signals (ultrasonic waves) are transmitted between two sensors. Bi‑directional signal transmission is supported, meaning each sensor can send and receive acoustic waves. The propagation speed of sound increases when travelling with the flow and decreases when travelling against the flow, resulting in a transit‑time difference. This transit‑time difference is proportional to the flow velocity of the medium. The measuring system calculates the volumetric flow rate of the medium using the measured transit‑time difference and the pipe cross‑sectional area. In addition to the transit‑time difference, the sound velocity of the medium can be measured simultaneously. This extra measured variable enables differentiation between different media or monitoring of medium quality.
