The measuring device determines the flow velocity of the medium passing through the measuring tube by means of offset‑mounted downstream ultrasonic sensors. It features a design with no pressure loss and no moving parts. The flow signal is calculated by alternately measuring the one‑way transit time of sound waves between the sensors. The underlying principle: the propagation speed of sound waves increases in the downstream direction and decreases in the upstream direction. The resulting transit‑time difference (∆t) is used to determine the flow velocity of the medium between the sensors. The volumetric flow rate is obtained by summing the flow velocities measured by each sensor pair and multiplying the total by the cross‑sectional area of the measuring tube, with full consideration of fluid‑dynamic effects. The structural design and arrangement of the sensors ensure that only a short upstream straight pipe length is required behind common pipe disturbances upstream of the meter (e.g. elbows installed in one or two planes). Advanced digital signal processing combined with innovative sensor design enables stable calculation of flow signals. This combination mitigates the effects of multiphase flow conditions (wet and variable gas conditions) and improves measurement reliability.
