Based on the thermal‑dispersion measuring principle, the medium flows past a heated RTD (Pt100) and removes part of its heat. The mass flow rate is determined by monitoring the cooling effect. The flowmeter incorporates two Pt100 RTDs located within the measuring zone. One Pt100 measures the actual fluid temperature, while the other Pt100 is heated. The temperature sensor monitors and records the real process temperature. For the heated RTD, the current through the heating element is regulated to maintain a constant temperature difference relative to the prevailing process temperature. The higher the mass flow rate of the measured medium, the stronger the cooling effect, and the more current is required to keep the temperature difference constant. Accordingly, the mass flow rate of the medium can be obtained by monitoring the current flowing through the heating element.
