In amperometric dissolved oxygen measurement, oxygen molecules diffuse through the membrane and are reduced to hydroxide ions (OH⁻) at the working electrode. At the counter electrode, silver is oxidized to silver ions (Ag⁺), forming a silver halide layer. The release of electrons at the working electrode and their consumption at the counter electrode generate an electrical current. Under constant operating conditions, this current is proportional to the oxygen concentration in the process medium. The current is converted by the transmitter and displayed as oxygen concentration in mg/L, µg/L, ppm, ppb, Vol%, ppmVol, or as the raw value in nA. The measurement can also be displayed as oxygen saturation (%SAT) or oxygen partial pressure (hPa).
