CCS51

Based on the amperometric measurement principle, the sensor uses hypochlorous acid (HOCl) to measure the residual chlorine concentration. Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) in the process medium diffuses through the sensor membrane and is reduced to chloride ions (Cl⁻) at the gold cathode. At the silver anode, silver is oxidized to silver chloride (AgCl). The gold cathode releases electrons while the silver anode accepts electrons, forming an electrical current circuit. Under constant operating conditions, the circuit current is directly proportional to the residual chlorine concentration in the process medium. The concentration of hypochlorous acid depends on the pH value. An auxiliary pH measurement is used to compensate for this effect. The transmitter calculates the chlorine concentration from the amperometric current signal and displays the measured value in mg/L (ppm).
