Measuring principle:
The ultrasonic measurement principle is based on the time-of-flight (ToF) method, measuring the distance between the reference point and the medium surface. The sensor emits ultrasonic pulses toward the material surface. The pulses are reflected from the material surface and received by the sensor, while the transmitter measures the time difference (t) between pulse transmission and reception. Based on the time difference (t) and sound velocity (c), the distance is calculated as D = c × t / 2. Based on the distance (D), the level (L), volume (V), and flow rate (Q) in weirs or open channels can also be calculated.

The FDU90 ultrasonic sensor is suitable for continuous, non-contact level measurement of liquids, slurries, sludge, powders, and bulk solids. It is maintenance-free and can also be used for flow measurement in open channels and weirs. Measurement is unaffected by dielectric constant, density, or humidity, while the sensor’s self-cleaning function eliminates the impact of medium buildup on measurement performance. It is suitable for use in hazardous areas, with a maximum measuring range of 3 m (9.8 ft) for liquids and 1.2 m (3.9 ft) for solids.
