A Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) measures temperature based on the principle that the electrical resistance of a metal conductor changes with temperature. The basic principle is that when temperature changes, the lattice vibration of metal conductors such as platinum and copper changes, affecting electron movement and causing the electrical resistance value to vary accordingly. Taking the platinum resistance sensor Pt100 as an example, the standard resistance value is 100 Ω at 0 °C. The resistance increases by approximately 0.385 Ω for every 1 °C rise in temperature, showing a highly linear relationship within a defined temperature range. In practical measurement applications, a constant current source or bridge circuit converts resistance changes into electrical signals. Three-wire or four-wire connection technology is used to eliminate lead resistance errors, and the resistance value is converted into temperature according to internationally standardized resistance-temperature tables.
