A Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) measures temperature based on the principle that the electrical resistance of a metal conductor changes with temperature. The basic principle is that when temperature changes, the lattice vibration of metal conductors such as platinum and copper changes, affecting the movement of electrons and resulting in a variation in electrical resistance. Taking the platinum resistance sensor Pt100 as an example, the standard resistance value is 100 Ω at 0 °C. The resistance increases by approximately 0.385 Ω for every 1 °C increase in temperature, showing a highly linear relationship within a certain temperature range. In practical measurement applications, a constant current source or bridge circuit converts resistance changes into electrical signals. Three-wire or four-wire connection technology is used to eliminate lead resistance errors, and the resistance value is converted into temperature according to internationally standardized resistance-temperature tables.
