Measuring principle:
The vortex flowmeter operates based on the principle of the Kármán vortex street. When fluid flows past a bluff body (such as a triangular prism) inside a pipe, vortices are alternately formed on both downstream sides, creating a regular vortex street. The vortex frequency (f) is proportional to the flow velocity (v), with the relationship expressed as f = St·v/d (where St is the Strouhal number and d is the width of the bluff body). Sensors (such as piezoelectric elements) detect the vortex frequency and convert it into an electrical signal, and the flow rate Q is calculated through the instrument coefficient K (determined via calibration) as Q = f/K. This type of flowmeter is suitable for gases, steam, and liquids.
