The measurement principle of ORP electrodes follows the Nernst equation identically to pH electrodes. When immersed in the test solution, electrodes acquire positive potential and lose electrons in oxidizing media; conversely, electrodes gain electrons and present negative potential in reducing media. Accordingly, stronger oxidizability corresponds to a more positive ORP potential.
